The Indian army earlier released a statement saying that 3 Indian troops died in the clash. But later on, it stated that 17 soldiers died from their injuries, taking the total to 20. It also confirmed that no shots were fired during the dispute.

India built a new road dividing side in Ladakh along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Following which China deployed troops and built infrastructure of its own in disputed territory. Consequently, tensions arose between the two neighbouring countries and resulted in deadly clash after decades.

China accused India of crossing the borders onto the Chinese side. In return, India accused China of breaking the agreement to respect LAC. The United Nations requested both the sides to exercise maximum restraint.
