INTERNET SPEED RESTRICTIONS EXTENDED IN JAMMU AND KASHMIR TILL JUNE 17

The Home department of Jammu and Kashmir has stated that the suspension of 4g network will be extended till June 17; The rise in infiltration, Terrorist attacks, etc. are cited as reasons in the order. Moreover, the Home Secretary states that the 2g network has not affected the Covid-19 measures, online education, or E-business.

This order from the Home department has come after the Supreme Court has arranged a Special committee on 11th may for examining the issues raised in the plea for restoration of 4g network services.

It is to be noted that the Home department has not mentioned anything regarding the special committee investigation inputs. The continuation of the restrictions for internet services has been justified on the lines for national security, terrorism control and to maintain public order.

It is very unfortunate for the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir for being not able to have an internet connection when everything is done through the internet in this pandemic situation. The right to the internet is considered to be a fundamental right by judicial pronouncements and these arbitrary restrictions should be taken into consideration by the Supreme Court.
