The Supreme Court declined to interfere with the decision of Telangana High Court where the death sentence was converted into life time imprisonment of a POSCO convict. The plea was heard by the bench of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and KM Joseph.

The Supreme Court stated the punishment of not being released till his last breath is punitive enough to send a signal to the society and death sentence cannot be the only means to send a signal to the society.

The Supreme Court dismissed the plea filed by the state, stating it is not deemed fit to interfere with the order passed by the High Court as they have rightfully exercised jurisdiction under Article 132 of the Constitution.
